THE ROYAL PRESENCE IN AUSTRALIA 1867-1986 Hard to Find Out of Print Book by Philip W Pike
Since 1867 there have been over fifty official royal visits to Australia by different members of the royal family. They have always been received with great warmth and affection by the Australian people. Prior to the 1954 tour by the present Queen there had been only six royal tours. Because of the long sea voyages and extensive land travel involved during these very early visits they tended to be very prolonged and also epic in their proportions. With improved travel, visits have become more frequent and shorter. However, this increased contact has served to endear members of the royal family more strongly to Australians. This attractive and comprehensively researched book with its large collection of illustrations and photographs, gives a colourful account of the official tours from 1867 to 1986.
