Born in 1945, David Turner, a family doctor in a Midlands town, first began to breed sheep to solve a grass problem and fill a gap created when he had to sell his horse. By one of those strange quirks of fate, he discovered Southdowns, took to them immediately and has never regretted it. He was fortunate enough to acquire good foundation stock to begin with and has worked hard to keep the luck with yim.
Having bred lambs clearly too good to eat, he was confronted with the problem of how to market them. His chosen breed, temporarily out of fashion with some sections of the commercial sheep world, needed to prove his worth with the Breed Society. Both these goals might have been achieved by showing, so, familiar with learning from books, he sought written guidance but in vain.
Some years later, by trial and error and with plenty of luck and a great deal of help from more experienced shepherds, he has progressed from complete ignorance to the joy of winning a much-coveted First at the Royal Show.
In this book he hopes to pass on all he had learned to those like himself who like to see good sheep well prepared.

Published by Farming Press Books in the UK, this book, although aimed at the UK show scene, is still an informative source of reference for anyone wishing to show their sheep.
This 102 page hardcover is illustrated with colour and black and white photographs. This book is ex-library and as such has all the usual stamps and stickers, however there are no external markings. The cover has some rubbing wear to corner (please see photograph), but it is otherwise in a very good, tight, clean condition inside and out. This book has obviously had very little use and there are none of the usualy grubby finger marks so often associated with ex-library books. A great book at a great price!
