Thunderbird 2 - TB2

The rescue aircraft which starred in Gerry Anderson's  'Thunderbirds' International Rescue television series.

Professionally built and painted with accurate profile ready for display

Huge 1:144 scale. This model of Thunderbird 2 (TB2) measures 53cm (21 inches) long with 38cm (15 inches) wing span. Crafted from Japan's IMAI brand largest scale authentic model kit of the TB2; the 'Super Big Model TB-2',  IMAI Code No: B-2067. The model is in excellent beautiful condition, kept in tip-top shape in the custom box after months of meticulous construction. The Japanese IMAI model kit which forms the base construction for the TB2 was out of production long ago. Additional, enhanced panel lines have been scribed to the entire model, referenced from schematic plans, drawings and photos with some re-work, extra machining in parts resulting in a more formidable display model.The custom display stand was constructed as an additional item as well as the custom shipping box. Overall, it is quite a heavy Thunderbird model replica due to its large size, solid build and metal parts. Comes with an extra detached Pod. The model builder permanently affixed one pod inside the main Thunderbird body for extra strength, stability & for the "in-flight" display.

Main body fuselage, wings, pod and tail-plane: The main body fuselage is constructed of a hard High-Density Injected Polystyrene Foam (H.D.I.P.F.) of minimum outer shell thickness of 7mm with some parts being thick solid construction. Other parts of the Thunderbird 2 are of 'white-metal', brass and pressed-metal. Hi-strength mini-magnets have been added, built-into the fuselage's four leg ports to ensure the optional brass leg stanchions are held-in and don't fall out. Main side intake port grills are constructed of cast 'white-metal'. The wings are slotted into the main body then fixed with brass pins and epoxy cement. The front and rear faces of the Pod have been remachined. Panel lines and additional detailing to top and underside of wings. Spare set of original IMAI brand TB-2 wings (blanks) are included in the box.

Two Main Engines-rear: Brass metal with panel lines added, tooled (scribed) on. Intake and exhaust ports are cast 'white-metal'.

Tail Plane: Solid high density injected polystyrene foam (H.D.I.P.F.) enhanced with additional detailing and panel lines. The intake and exhaust ports to the upper assembly are of cast 'white-metal'. The tail-plane is fixed into the main body with steel pins and epoxy cement. Some additional re-work, detailing to the tail plane's outermost side intake and aft ports.

Pod No. 2: Spare Pod built from original IMAI model. Construction same as other pod and main aircraft (H.D.I.P.F. material). Small rubber pads added to this pod for display-support to protect brass wheels and so it doesn't "roll away".

Pod Main Wheels: Underside of both pods have two solid brass metal wheels with additional machined central groove. Affixed into cast 'white-metal' supports. Can turn freely.

Main Fuselage vertical take-off exhaust ports (underside): Re-machined; the plastic projections removed and replaced with circular pressed metal steel discs with belled metal inserts giving a more detailed, 'realistic' look.

Optional display metal legs: Solid turned brass legs were replaced with more detailed leg construction, constructed of brass metal pipe of varying size. Steel embedded inside so legs can be held to the main fuselage's built-in rare-earth magnets. The "feet" are cast 'white-metal'.

Custom display stand for the Thunderbird 2: Strong-stiff carbon-fibre vertical tube with solid brass metal inserts each end. One end fits into the display base and the other end slots into the underside of the main Thunderbird 2 model. Two lengths of these carbon-fibre rods have been built providing a choice of display heights. The circular display base is of solid turned 20mm MDF wood with brass tube-insert to support the vertical display rods. The base is spray painted black and low-sheen clear top coat. Underside of the custom display-stand's base is finished with green felt-cloth and thin vinyl-rubber support pads.

Paint: Beautifully painted model. Spray painted with three coats of high quality Tamiya (Japan) paint with weathering effects added. Main body and rescue pods are coloured Tamiya TS-61 Nato Green enamel. Then finished with three coats of Tamiya TS-80 Flat Clear low sheen enamel.

Accessories, extra vehicles included with the set for display: These are approximately the same scale to match the TB2.
