Opal simulants are inferior products made from glass. This synthetic opal is a superior product which has the same properties as real opal.
Natural opals often have about a 10% to 15% water content which means they need to be continually "watered" to keep their properties. In synthetic opals this water content is replaced by clear resin which makes them tougher and more durable.
Synthetic opals of this size and quality retail for around the $320 AUD mark. Natural opals of this size and quality would be worth more like $20000!!!.
