TORAH YAD 1875 80 87 95 89 91 POINTER FORGERY ! zeiger

Yes, I admit it, you are about to view and purchase an exquisite FAKE  SILVER Torah pointer, also known as a yad. It is not old, despite the fact that the hallmark states 1884. The sad fact of the matter is that there are hundreds of these fake and forged Judaica items being sold on Ebay type auction websites by unscrupulous sellers (I am not sure if I am allowed to mention names) who want to make a quick buck.
Now then, why do I say that this is a fake? Well, first let me admit that I myself bought 2 of these items on Ebay through a friend (see the Silver Besamim holder I am selling on my Ebay store) . I was hoping to get a $2000 piece of Judaica for a couple of hundred dollars. I was a fool! I received this piece and quickly realized that I had been conned. Why?

Well, here are the following reasons that I came up with:

REASONS THIS YAD IS A FAKE!

1) The item not only looks unused and new, IT IS NEW! If you have a similar besamim holder and peek inside, you will see new silver, never used. If these pieces are 100 years old, it's not possible that they were never used! My goodness, they were meant to be used at least once a week!
2) The piece has no rough edges. A 100+ year old item has to have some wear and tear, usually seen through rounded edges. This piece has sharp edges, like it was made yesterday.
3) The hall mark of 1844,1878, 1873, 1867,1894, 1884,1889 1880 etc is usually put on the wrong place. It was usually put on the bottom, INSIDE the piece where it could not be seen right away, or one after the other. Also, how many hallmarks does one need? 1 or 2 is usually enough, some of these have FOUR different hallmarks just to PROVE TO YOU that they are "authentic"!
4) Why are there so many of these pieces  being sold on Ebay all of a sudden? Did someone just discover a giant collection of these in the thousands??!! Just do a search on ebay every few days (now is a good time) with the words " YAD" or 'BESAMIM". See how many of these silver judaica you come up, with similar images that you see here! Coincidence or....fraud?

Though this item is a fake, it IS NICE! The price you are paying is not so bad for this quality work.  You don't lose out at the price, as long as you realize that it's not that old.

Now then, you can go and bid on other Torah Yad's and Besamim holders by other dealers, but beware. IF you have already bought an item, ask the dealer for your money back, that's the only way these people will learn!
I would also suggest to give them an appropriate feedback as well!
By the way, the creators of these forgeries do not limit themselves to Yad's and Besamim pieces, I have seen an etrog box, chess pieces, an ivory yad EVEN A CROSS! and other such forgeries being touted as genuine 19th & 18th century Judaica!
While my piece is a declared forgery, it IS nice and adds a certain old world flavor in any Judaica collection, BUT the high prices that some of these fakes get is unwarranted and  that is why I am selling my piece at my cost price.
