Turbinicarpus alonsoi, known as the Turbinicarpus, is a lovely globular cactus that is native to Mexico.

Solitary, tap root, globose greyish-green or glaucous stem with flattened top, partly underground, up to 11cm long, 7-9cm in diameter; tubercles 15mm long, 13mm wide, with carinate bottom; areoles with reddish wool turning grey as it ages; 3 to 5 soft flat spines, up to 2cm long.

Pink/mauve flowers, in summer around 3cm in diameter.

The fruit is red, smooth, 1cm long, 5mm in diameter.

Hardy to -4°C for a short period.

For sale is a packet of 10 fresh seeds.
