This signal to noise ratio needs to be as high as possible. The carrier signal to noise ratio (CNR) is measured in decibels. The FCC mandates this ratio to be at least 43dB on a cable system, but good engineering practices should target the end of the line CNR at between 46 to 49 dB. 1.) Use the shortest cable possible. 2.) Do NOT split the signal (each split lowers the power by 3 or more dB) 3.) Perhaps put a signal amplifier right next to the antenna if the cable is going to be very long (both noise and signal will be amplified) 4.) Raise the antenna height 5.) P.S. buy a good antenna and mount it properly following the guidelines set forth in the owners manual of your TV tuner.
