A reserve price is the minimum price the seller will accept. This price is hidden from bidders. To win, a bidder must have the highest bid and have met or exceeded the reserve price.
Mr. Rowse has immense enthusiasm for the Elizabethan age, and he communicates it. I do not see how anyone can read this book without being enlightened and inspired. For what is most impressive about the author is the extent of his knowledge.
Each chapter is a summary of shelves of material. By blending the general with the particular, the abstract with the visual, the economic with the human, he keeps his history alive.
Mr. Rowse has a vigorous style of writing which is very much his own. He is also a poet, and I think it is the poetry in him which makes him so good at evoking a past scene, or drawing a character.
Mr. Rowse is widely read because he is readable. He has a balanced view of the glorious age he describes, which takes it its vulgarities and meannesses and intrigues as well as its beauty, courage and hope. The whole book is suffused with a learning which is as warm-hearted as it is deep.

Here we have a fantastic Antique edition of "The England of Elizabeth" by A.L. Rowse.
The cover is a hard cover in red cloth. It does have a Jacket, the jacket is slightly torn. Book is in good condition for age.
Book was published in 1953.
