The Handbook of Riding
Mary Gordon-Watson
Foreword by Captain Mark Phillips
published by the Penguin Group, 1995.
ISBN 0720719984
The Handbook of Riding is the complete illustrated practical guide to riding skills and techniques. Over 600 illustrations.
Riding is as much an art as a science. To become an accomplished horseman or horsewoman you need not only a thorough grounding in the fundamental techniques of the sport, but also an instructor who can help you to develop a sensitive and thinking approach to your riding, so that you can build up an effective two-way communication with your horse.
Mary Gordon-Watson is admirably qualified to fill this role. Drawing on her considerable experience as a competitor, teacher and selector for the British equestrian team, she sets out in The Handbook of Riding clear and comprehensive guidelines for the reader who wishes to become a first-class rider.
The book explains every aspect of the sport from the very first lesson on horseback to competing at advanced level in show jumping, eventing and dressage. The various styles of riding are explained fully, as is the training and management of the horse.
The Handbook of Riding is the ideal reference book for all riders and as such deserves a place on every rider's bookshelf.

POSTAGE INFORMATION: Overseas airmail delivery takes from 5 to 10 business days. Express post ( 3 to 7 days) or sea mail (from 2 to 4 months) are the other options. Please contact me for details of the costs for express or seamail if required or check out Australia Post
Items are generally posted within 2 days of payment. Most are posted on the day after payment has been received. A postage notification email is sent when the item is posted.
I post most items within Australia in the postal satchels. Satchels take about the same time to be delivered interstate or to country areas as letters. Regular parcel post is slower because it does not go by air.
I charge a small handling fee of $1.00 on overseas posting.
The weight of the item in the description is the unpackaged weight.
All items are well-packed.
Insurance on overseas letters and parcels is an optional extra. The cost is a fee of $5.50 plus $2.00 per $100, or part thereof, up to $5,000. For example the cost of insuring a parcel or letter for $100 would be $7.50. Insurance of $200 would cost $9.50.
Insurance and registration on Australian letters & parcels is optional. A registration fee of $2.50 provides $100 insurance cover. Additional insurance is $1.10 for every $100 extra. Note insurance is available on regular parcel post only - not satchels.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Australian buyers - combine items and save on postage - $8.90 for a large satchel holding up to 3 kilos of book (number depends on size as well as weight). Regular parcel-post postage costs from $6.55 upwards (depending on postcode) for up to 20 kilos of books.
