The Invisible Man
by H.G. Wells
An audio book of 5 hours, 49 minutes and 19 seconds; narrated on 5 audio CDs.
A mysterious stranger arrives in a small Sussex village, covered up from head to toes with a coat, gloves, bandages, goggles and hat. The stranger demands to be left alone, spending most of his time in his room working with chemicals and laboratory apparatus. He quickly becomes the talk of the village as he unnerves the locals. Eventually, though, after a burglary (in which the thief was unseen) the stranger's secret comes out. The Invisible Man becomes a fugitive, obtaining support from accomplices through intimidation and threats.
The Invisible Man is one of the classic stories of science fiction.
"To do such a thing would be to transcend magic. And I beheld, unclouded by doubt, a magnificent vision of all that invisibility might mean to a man -- the mystery, the power, the freedom."
A novel so brilliantly original and successful that it spawned:
Now you can have this immortal story read to you, in a top-class 2008 recording that captures the human drama of a terrified village, the wonder and amazement of clothes and objects that move without visible support, and the intrigue of a manhunt for a fugitive who can disappear at will.
Recorded on five CDs - total running time: 5 hours 49 minutes

Yes, there are other audio books of The Invisible Man available, but they are either much more expensive, or else they are versions relying on computer-generated speech, with none of the drama and emotion. This audio book edition of The Invisible Man gives you the opportunity to obtain, for your personal collection, an outstanding quality narration of one of the world’s greatest stories, at a fraction of the cost charged by major recording studios.

| Wells was born on 21 September 1866 at Bromley. He was the fourth and last son born to working class parents. When he was eight years old, he was bedridden with a broken leg. To pass the time, he started reading and soon became devoted to the other worlds and lives to which books gave him access; it also stimulated his desire to write. As a young man he had unhappy apprenticeships in various trades including draper and teacher. In 1883, he won a scholarship to what was then known as the Normal School of Science but he failed to pass all his subjects and lost his scholarship. He turned to writing from 1888. His early novels, called "scientific romances", were written during the 1890's. They invented a number of themes now classic in science fiction in such works as The Time Machine, The Invisible Man, and The War of the Worlds (which have all been made into films). Wells died on 13 August 1946 |
He has also been a part-time dramatic and comic actor with local theatre companies in Sydney and the Gold Coast. But it was his consistent and award-winning performances on radio that made him so well known to hundreds of thousands of Australian listeners from 1979 to 1997. As a newsreader on Sydney’s 2GB and 2UE, later as news director and current affairs commentator on Adelaide’s radio 5AD and 5DN, Shane Sody established a reputation as one of Australia’s authoritative radio voices. He has been narrating and producing audio books for sale on eBay since March 2005. | |
