THE YELLOW RIVER
A 5000 YEAR JOURNEY THROUGH CHINA

The Yellow River, known to the Chinese as the Huanghe, is the sixth longest of the world's rivers. In its 5000-kilometer course it flows through the hearthland of China and impinges upon the lives of millions of Chinese. It is a river of contrasting tempers, broad and placidly meandering in some places and widly torrential in other. It figures prominently in legend ant tradition and its vast basin are to be found the origins of Chinese civilisation. Over the past two years a team of film-maker and photographers have traced the entire lenght the the Yellow River, producing a series of television documentaries. They were the first outsiders to travese some of the forbidding terrain and record the lifestyles of the people who live in its vicinity. From their work a comprehensive photographic record of the Yellow River was created.
