An early Tintin book, first published in colour in 1946, that was only published in English in 2005. It does have both racial stereotypes from that colonial era as well as attitudes towards wildlife that are probably more offensive today than at the time of writing. It's a worthwhile investment for the older fan, to satisfy the curiosity for the 'missing book' and makes for an interesting study of the controversial issues.
It has an introduction by Leslie Lonsdale Cooper and Michael Turner (The translators) covering the issues of wildlife and race in the book, and Herges's views on the book.
The paper security ribbon is intact, and the paper ribbon has a very small tear (5mm) on the spine part (see photo)
Despite a weak storyline for Herge, the drawings are to Herge's usual standard of course.
This book is probably best suited to collectors rather than younger children.
