ITEM: Huichol Yarn Print / Painting
SIZE: 60x60cm
ARTIST: Andreas Callilo Bautista
WEIGHT: 1.5kg
RRP: $2000
Time to complete: approx 30 days

This is a stunning large yarn print which depicts the sun, the moon, the horned nummingbird and the deer all very important symbols to Huichol  Indians. It is an extremely detailed and intricate piece.

The following is written on the back of the piece(in SPANISH)

From what I know of spanish and babel fish advice it translates roughly as:

The healer uses the sun's power to heal the patient. In the night, he discovers the secrets of "sabiduria" and uses it to fight against the malignant spirit that attacks the patient. Ummm.... Something about the feathers of the bird helping the sick patient. SOmeone dances around the fire for one night in celebration (of something I can't translate). Chuparrasa is the third envoy of the healer to the God of the water.

This is a traditional piece we purchased on our travels in Mexico. It is made by the Huichol Indians of Mexico
. The Huichols are peyote cactus people who create their artwork through visions and experience of ceremony celebrating the earths elements. These arts are entirely unique to these people and this area of the world.

The curandero, the shaman, depicts visions he sees while on the hallucinogenic cactus peyote. These vibrant and rich yarn prints are created using spun yarn with each piece sometimes taking months to complete. A print 60cmx60cm will take over a month to complete.  The yarn is laid painstakingly piece by piece onto a wood base covered in beeswax. No design is preconceived and all are unique.

All our huichol bead and yarn work was bought from a specific family in Mexico: Andreas Callilo Bautista and his family. We viewed their work, and especially that of Andreas and his sons, to be some of the most finely detailed Huichol artwork we have seen to date. Know that in purchasing this item it is authentic and the money goes back directly to the native people of northwest Mexico. This item was purchased direct from the artist. We always pay full price for the artwork and do not bargain.

We will be listing more of our art pieces on ebay in the coming months, if you would like to see what other items we have available please contact us.

For international postage costs, please contact us.

National postage costs are estimated via the australia post site. Pickup is also possible and we are in sydney and canberra frequently so a dropoff is also possible if you are willing to wait tillthe next time we are in your area.
