The optical illusion is achieved through a psycho-physical process called a physics conclusion. In short the sphere is see-through and so you can't see its surface and therefore can't see it spin. Your visual brain needs a point of reference and so focuses on the lines of the spiral moving past the sphere. The sphere seems to have a separate motion to the spiral and causes visual brain confusion.

Then the physics part of the brain determines that spheres roll and therefore this sphere must be rolling. And so your brain has been tricked into believing an incorrect assumption due to its inability to see a see-through surface.

There...see it was easy...Anyway, They look awesome and that's all you need to know.

They are designed to spin in the wind and are ideally hung in an exposed location like under the deck on your verandah, however the uniquely balanced shape of the mobile is mathematically designed for the optimum length of spinning time from a single turn by the hand.

The coils are manufactured from solid marine alloy (6063) and so is very durable and will not rust. And the spheres are made from solid lead glass (crystal) for their beautiful clarity, which allows the illusion to happen.
