![]() Title: "Tree of Life - Bird Mandala" ARTIST'S STATEMENT This is a delightful, whimsical and colourful nature composition where the birds are presented as a Mandala. A circle, whose archetypal symbolism in the act of creation, becomes spiritual and sacred. The image is made of two trees, whose branches and roots take on a Celtic knotted design which protectively encircling the birds. I chose to show two trees rather than one, as all life depends on co-existence to be able to fully function. Like that of a husband and wife, whose lives become so entwined that they become one in the same. Knots are symbolic of linked connection to protective powers and their woven tangles are inspired by the idea of co-dependence in maintaining healthy eco-systems. This is further emphasised with the introduction of different life forms within a small area. At the base of the tree are ants, our reminder of the value of hard work and constant striving. Within the branches lies a spider, an often disliked creature that is essential within a balanced eco-system. He is a reminder that not all tasks in life are pleasant and that a need to see the balance of a larger picture is often wise. Two frogs are on the tree to the right, who because of their association with metamorphosis remind us of our own power of adaptation, and our ability to grow and mature with difficult circumstances. Three birds feature as the central characters. Birds are associated with heavenly beings. They represent the grace, beauty and freedom that many find unobtainable, they symbolise an emotional and spiritual goal. The four corners portray opposites or balances. At the top is the day and night while at the bottom the land displays fertile and barren. ORIGINAL ARTIST PRINTS
