 Description Postage and payments

  Thisleather clad wooden shield is the 3rd to be made.  Mycenaean Shield of the Regular Army wearable as well as wall mountable.  It is fully clad in heavy duty distressed leather and reinforced with steel edges.  Upholstery nails and studs used to fasten as well as decorate. 

The Mycenaean Army (Lacadaemon, Spartan), around the time of the Trojan War, was predominantly issued with composite leather clad wood shields of this type as opposed to the later Argive bronze shields used by the heavy infantry Hoplites by the side of Leonidas (Thermopylae) 480bc. 

Revised from the 'Osprey Men at Arms' series with further revision.   Much hardier than some of its ancestral predesessors ~(leather /wicker), this type early classical skirmish shield was chiefly employed as protection from archers or slingers and to deflect blows. 

Shield measures approx 61.5cms.
