Two Eprad drive-in speakers and an Eprad junction box (holder)
DESCRIPTION: Here are two Eprad drive-in theatre speakers and an Eprad speaker holder (junction box). These speakers were installed at the Maitland drive-in theatre in NSW, I purchased them from the owner of the drive-in after it closed. They were also used in country Victoria (Cobram Moonlight etc) and on the Gold Coast, perhaps the toughest speaker ever made.
CONDITION: The speakers and junction box are in used condition, but they come complete. Remember they have hung in the weather for several decades. These ones do have some surface blemishes (white aluminium oxide that with scrubbing or buffing can be removed). The volume controls turn OK on these. You can buy new ones for a few dollars each from Jaycar Electronics or similar stores if required. They will need restoration to work properly.
RESTORATION: You can re-paint them white and blue, silver or in hammer-tone as many were or a colour of your choice. These ones have never been painted! A special tool is required to remove the security scews on these speakers if you wish to open them. It is a spline tool available from tool and electrical supply shops.
The juction box has some rust to the terminals on the inside. Replacement speakers to install inside the shell can be obtained from Jaycar Electronics stores located Australia wide and their website for around $4.00 each. The existing units would be worn. At drive-ins, we replaced them every few years to ensure the sound quality was maintained. These speakers have not been restored in any way.
DISPLAY THEM: The juction box can be mounted to a pole or post as seen here and the speakers hang from it. Note that the pole is NOT included in this auction. I have a pair of drive-in speakers in the backyard hanging from the junction box on a pole, they are wired up so I can have background music playing - just like before the show or listen to football etc.
These classic speakers look fantastic hanging on your classic, custom or rod. Hang them on the window and just wait for the comments. Long gone are the days when you could grab a drive-in speaker at any auto swap meet at $20 each, I saw a pair for sale recently at $300 for a set in poor condition. Drive-ins hardly use speakers now as most have converted to FM, so most are lost and long gone.
Remember these speakers come with a junction box (speaker holder) this is a $40 item by itself. Junction boxes were rarely collected from closed drive-ins, as they were difficult to remove from the posts.
Please ask any questions you may have about these speakers and I'll be happy to answer them.
Paypal preferred for all buyers, but Australian buyers may send an Australia Post money order or use direct bank deposit.

Good luck with your bidding!
