This car, first appeared in practice for the 1983 Austrian Grand Prix at the Österreichring and was designed by Maurice Philippe. It was driven by Michele Alboreto and Danny Sullivan. This model can be used to make the 1984 version driven by Stephan Bellof, Mike Thackwell, Martin Brundle and Stefan Johansson. This car was also very nearly driven in the 1984 Dallas Grand Prix by F1 safety car driver Tim Evans. After Brundles crash in practice, F1 Doctor Sid Watkins suggested to Ken Tyrrell that Evans was the only driver immediately available with the required FIA super license to enter a Grand Prix. Evans, an American, had driven sports cars for several years including the CanAm where he was 1979 2 liter champion driving a Lola T290. Unfortunately for Evans, his six foot six inch frame prevented him from fitting in the car. With his feet on the pedals and hands on the cockpit sides, he was exposed from the pelvis up. Just a bit too big for the low cockpit 012 ! Evans is noteworthy for the fact that he has started in 14 Formula One Grands Prix - all at the rear, chauffeuring Dr. Watkins for the first couple of laps in each race. Body is a vacuum form shell made from white styrene and can fit on AFX, FALLER, TOMY, TYCO, Lifelike or several other HO scale slot car chassis. Body shell must be painted and trimmed to fit on chassis. Vacuum form body is clean and as well crafted as possible, the base of the mold is not pretty - in fact, it's a real mess! (but who cares - it is going to be trimmed and discarded) and there is a ton of "flash" (thermal form vain) beneath the airbox that will need to be trimmed by the buyer/modeler. Vacuum form driver figure is included with this auction. The rear wing (including the supports and end plates) must be cut from sheet plastic and super glued or cemented to body and/or together. Chassis mounts are NOT provided. A paper print template is included as instructions to assist with assembly and proper fit of the flat pieces. Not a hard job if you are capable with a hobby knife or scissors. A rewarding model with 1/43 scale quality. Modeling skills are a must !! The model can be painted to look like the model in this description. The vacuum form body shell pictured (shown for demonstration of what a vacuumform body shell looks like) is a similar Tyrrell - the 1990 Tyrrell 019 and/or 1991 Tyrrell 020 Honda. Again, modeling skills are a must !! The HO scale chassis with the best wheelbase for this body (center of the front wheel to the center of the rear wheel) is the TOMY super G-Plus chassis.
