FULL HD 1080i Support - What's the difference?

1. A Full HD 1080i tuner supports ultra sharp maximum resolutions of up to around 1920 x 1080 (if the broadcast channel and monitor supports it). (This is over 2.073 million pixels in quality, currently the highest resolutiuon 'practically' available at this day and age).
2. HDTV 720p tuners supports maximum resolutions of up to around 1280 x 720 . (This is around 0.922 million pixels in quality, one of the more common resolutiuons available at this day and age, about 200% less effective pixels than Full HD).
3. Other Non HD tuners output a Maximum of around 640 x 480 pixels or under, (about 0.307 million pixels on average, around 300% less effective pixels than HD, and over 600% less than Full HD).

You may try to 'enlarge' a low quality (~640x480) picture into a larger size, but the detail and quality remains the same- The poor quality gets even more obvious with a larger picture.

Other Non-HD tuners on eBay may cost 'a bit' less, but if their maximum performance is up to 6 times worse, are they really worth it?

What do you need to do to view Full HD?
"The maximum quality is determined by the weakest link in the chain from the Broadcast station to your Computer display/monitor."

HD / Full HD is dependant on the Tuner, broadcast station/channel and monitor.
1. The station needs to broadcast HD / Full HD pictures and quality
2. The Receiving Tuner must be Full HD capable
3. The Computer, Video card and Display must be capable of outputting HD / Full HD.
(Fortunately Most/all computer displays and video cards made in the last decade are HD / Full HD ready and can display at least 1024 x 768, so you will likely benefit from a HD tuner over a Non-HD tuner, but check to make sure by right clicking on your desktop, selecting properties, and select the settings tab and have a look at the maximum screen resolution available; that is the maximum quality you can view channels in)

Eg: If your station broadcasts channels only streams in Non-HD (or HD channels using low quality images), using a Full HD tuner won't do much good, likewise, viewing Full HD channels on a tiny screen won't gve you full HD quality either even if you have a HD tuner.
To get Full HD, you must view Full HD 1080i channels on a Full HD computer monitor / display.

To ensure this product actually works in Australia, our staff actually use and test the device so we can help you with problems. You can use the quick start guide that came with the manufacturer if you wish. Some may find the quick start guide confusing, so we compiled the following instructions, which is a log of exactly what we did to get it running on our systems.

First, have a look at the instructions on the user manual just in case.

Basically you insert the DVB-T tuner device into a free USB2.0 port, insert your CD Rom, let windows search for the software for it, and install it.

Then install Kworld Hyper media centre from the CD Rom, run it, and it will guide you through the configuration, which is basically 1) Select type of Tuner (Select Digital TV), 2) Select your location (Australia, USA etc. wherever you are), then 3) Scan channels. 4) once scan completes, press the "next" button. 5) Screen says "Setting OK", click on "Finish" 6) You arrive back on the main screen. 7) All done!

Now for example, to watch TV starting out from the main screen, select "TV" on the main menu, and you will go to the TV screen. To change a channel, select "Channel List" (pretty simple isn't it?), to see what's on that particular channel you are watching, select EPG (Electronic program guide).

Go to the settings window to change aspect ratio, brightness and contrast etc..

When your done, double click on the TV image to view it in full screen. Double click on it again to exit full screen.

To record what you are watching immediately, just click on the red circular button at the bottom control panel. It will automatically record your video to your "MY DOCUMENTS" folder

You can also record by schedule. If you are doing it for the first time, simply select "schedule" from the TV menu, then select " New schedule" and then choose a channel to record, when to start, when to end and that's basically it ! The program will run in the background and record your selected channel from the start time to the end time (based on your computer system clock). The storage folder is also your "My Documents" Folder.

Note: The software is set to record at maximum quality every time. Software updates occur frequently by the manufacturer and you may be available to download newer versions for free.

Hints and Tips:
- Switch to Full Screen by double clicking anywhere on the window that displays the video you are watching. Double click again to exit full screen..
- Lost? To return to the main menu at any time, click on the GREEN Home (House) Button at the top left corner of the program window.
- To go back one step, click on the blue arrow button at the top left corner of the program window.
- Hover your mouse pointer over any button on the control panel at the bottom to see its features.
- Avoid moving the mouse while watching video as it might drain processor power
- To effectively use Teletext, the best way is to activate window mode (press the window mode button at the bottom of the screen which looks like 4 arrows pointing to the centre, its the last button on the control panel), then when you are in window mode, activate teletext (The Tx Button). 5 new black coloured buttons will appear at the top, and on the right, there will be a Space with the word "GO" in it, just type the page number into this space and press enter to load the page..

Our opinion about its features

This model is one of the best DVB-T receivers for the computer that we have sampled in terms of size and quality. The manufacturer is an established company and are professionals in the DVB-T consumer market, and have won numerous awards.

We chose Kworld as their product range matched the feedback received from our buyers- mainly the ease of installation, use and stability and performance. Our trial of their newest models of DVB-T receiver satisfied all our requirements. Installation was the easiest amongst all the models we tested, and the software was the easiest to understand and the easiest to use. The device was over 80% more stable than other models and 40% more stable compared to the 380U which debuted a few years ago (this is the 380UR - 2nd revision which isn't displayed on the case, but can be confirmed if you ask the manufacturer).

The best part was that we could install it on more than one computer (as long as we used it for this Kworld device). Other software often gets bogged down by CD Keys and forgotten serial numbers which can be a real headache.

Although there are many similar models that are also just as good initially, Several models that we sampled before may not run on windows vista with their drivers or are unstable on vista or come with complicated software and were unstable after a few hours of use. This device didn't have these problems. It was one of the most stable DVB-T Tuners we ever sampled, mostly caused by the improved circuit design which now includes a stable infrared remote control system.

By connecting the device directly to our building's aerial port, we could receive around 26 channels (even duplicate broadcasts from the some stations on different channels eg: 7 Digital 1, 2, 3 etc).

The small bundled antenna is, by matter of fact of small antennas, not very powerful simply because it is small- This is to be expected in all small antennas that we know of and is not something we, you, nor the manufacturer can do anything about unless you buy a bigger antenna or reposition it where there is reception. Reception depends heavily on your local broadcasting station's broadcasting power and moving the antenna to an area of good reception.

The bundled software is a major factor. It is feature packed and the quality of output is very very good. It is really high quality HDTV video and audio. It uses significant processing power, ensuring greater device stability than other models which try to cut back on processing speed, making videos appear jerky at times, even if reception is good. The powerful video editing software really gives new meaning to digital recordings, allowin you to edit out advertisments and even insert your own video footage before burnign them to state of the art Blue-Ray / DVD /VCD Discs etc.. The software also allows you to export the video as an AVI file and upload your videos to videosharing websites like youtube (please comply with all applicable laws).

In all, it works very well. Poor reception through a small antenna or while running other programs in the background may cause the display to lag. Overall, we have no complaints with this device at all. It works flawlessly for us (when connected to a larger antenna on our roof).

Sound Card (AC97 compatible), 1GB Hard Disk Space and Video card that can support DirectX 9.0 or above, DirectX 9.0c, 1GB Free Hard Disk Space (a bit less for the eeePC software version), Working CD-ROM Drive (For software installation, or you can download it from the internet). Support for newer operating systems and service packs that are not listed above cannot be confirmed as yet; you can check with Kworld who publishes updates and drivers on a regular basis.
