This coat belongs on the vintage runway, it is class, style and Hollywood glam at it's best. Put this beside a Mink coat and I don't think anyone would be looking at the Mink. This is the finest 1940s vintage, WINTER, swing coats I have seen, it has all the attributes of the finest vintage rolled into one, Raspberry red, virgin wool, with high style Lambs wool curly fur collar and cuffs. Coat has slit side pockets, one pocket had a tiny opening at the very top of slit pocket and I had a lady mend or reinforce that tiny area to make sure it would not become larger. Actually the lady did not think it needed to be done but since it is a pocket, I wanted to make sure. (The last photo in the series gives you an idea of just how tiny it actually is, notice tiny area at the very top of the pocket.) Curly lambswool collar has a large hook and eye closure. Coat was made by FORSTMANN and sold from upscale "THE LINDNER COY" in CLEVELAND. A total of fifteen covered buttons embellish this coat, the top eight buttons actually close the coat the remaining buttons and button holes are merely for decoration and gives the appearance that the coat buttons all the way down. Notice the second set of buttons are purposely offset an inch or so for design and all covered buttons are present and have an threaded X through the center, small details like this add up to major difference in cut color and design of clothing. Interior has raspberry silk full lining. Elegant fullness has a lovely drape and creates a graceful appearance when walking. Notice detail work on back of shoulders. Our mannequin is a size 8 and this is a nice snug fit so please take your own personal measurements. Here are the approx. measurements laying flat shoulder seam to shoulder seam 15", underarm to underarm 20", length from shoulder to hem approx. 44/45" long. I am old enough to remember a little about the 1940s, money was scarce and women simply did not have the money to buy fine quality clothing. Men were either in the the service or getting ready to go so, naturally the yearly income was severely slashed. Lot's of short or fingertip swing coats come into fashion primarily because it took less fabric to make shorties and therefore they were more affordable. Only women with money could pay the higher price for the more desirable full length swing coat. It's a delightful retro, virgin wool coat that is in EXCEPTIONALLY FINE VINTAGE CONDITION.
