This is my mother's amazingly gorgeous Priscilla of Boston wedding gown and veil from 1953. My mother kept such good care of the dress that it is in MINT condition, like new. And as a sidenote -- my parents were married for 31 years, so it's a "lucky" dress! :)
The style is classic and NOT dated. My sister wore it too in 1982. Candlelight (which basically ivory) (thick) satin gown with Alsatian lace panels over the satin down the back of the train and two panels in front (see pictures). It has a scoop neckline, slightly off the shoulders with seed pearls hand sewn on the lace of the bodice. The long sleeves have REAL buttons up the forearm, as well as buttons down the back of the dress. The hemline is lined with real horsehair so as to give body to the hemline. (Please note that picture of my mother includes a hoop that she wore underneath, but is NOT included in this auction. The veil is simple and elegant, tulle -- fingertip style (length from headband to fingertips). The headband measures 14" across and is made of the Alsatian lace with the hand-sewn pearls on top.
The dress was originally about a size 8-10 and my sister also got married in this dress and is much smaller so it was altered to fit her -- I would say approximately a size 4 or maybe 6 (please see measurements below). I have not taken the dress out of the neatly arranged bag that the cleaners returned it to me in and so as to leave it in this great condition, I could only get approximate measurements which are: Bust: 34"; Waist: 26"; sleeves: 22"; and measurement from waist to floor is 58". I was not able to measure the length of the train, but you can look at the picture of my mother and get a good idea. Please look closely at pictures and ask me any questions before bidding. FYI: Priscilla of Boston was and is still a leading designer in wedding/formal gowns. In fact, her new dresses (in my opinion not made nearly as well as this vintage dress) range in price from $3,000-$10,000.
Be different and walk down the aisle in this unique and stunning one-of-a-kind wedding gown.
I believe I have included pictures of all these items, but if you would like more -- please feel free to contact me with any specific pictures you may want. I just had the dress professional cleaned by a specialist in wedding gowns and they also commented on the amazing condition of the dress. There are, however, a couple of marks to make mention of. The only flaws the cleaners could not fix are at the hemline where there are dirty marks because the dress was too long for my sister. I have included a picture of the marks on the hemline which I don't believe are very noticeable, especially since the rest of the dress is impeccable, however if you WOULD LIKE MORE PICTURES I WOULD BE HAPPY TO COMPLY, JUST EMAIL ME. Please make sure you think the dress is for you, as there are no returns -- I feel I have given an ample description and am happy to provide any other information to answer your questions.
