Offered to ebay members for wholesale auction and without reserve is this lovely, low mileage Volvo S40 Sedan.

In 1995 Volvo released the S40 (sedan) and V40 (station wagon).  It was one of the first models in a completely new and vastly updated design language that was ultimately employed across the entire Volvo range from then until now.

Built at the NedCar factory in Holland in a pre-Ford venture with Mitsubishi Motors, the 40 series boasted a drag coefficient of just 0.32 and was the first model to be introduced under the watchful eyes of Volvo’s new design director, the British Peter Horbury, and was marketed globally with massive success.  In fact the V40 was named the “most beautiful estate car in the world” at an Italian award ceremony and the 40 series in general is still held in extremely high regard.

The example on offer was sold new in 1997 and presents in charismatic metallic ocean blue with soft grey trim and remains an incredibly original example of the breed.

Features of this S40 includes a smooth automatic transmission, a factory CD audio system, front and side airbags, SIPS (side impact protection system), ABS brakes, power windows, central locking, power steering, air conditioning (very cold) and much, much more.

The S40 has now covered approx 125,000ks and is supplied with 2 keys.

Given the rather subjective nature of older vehicle assessment, your personal inspection is advised.  In this way, you may form your own opinions of the car and can judge whether or not it will live up to your expectations.

As a guide, my opinions of the car and its condition are as follows

COACHWORK:  Is in good general condition with minor imperfections to be found as should be expected with its age and mileage in mind.  Certainly there is nothing untoward and this is still an incredibly sharp looking vehicle with smooth glossy paint and no evidence of previous accident damage.  On the whole, while not new, this is quite an attractive example and should certainly impress any realistic bidder at this end of the market.

TRIM & INTERIOR:  Is in beautiful condition and belies the cars age.  All trim is quite clean including the soft cloth seats, the door trims and so forth.  There are no signs of UV fatigue and all trim is tight with an agreeable lack of annoying rattles.  The hood lining is just starting to show a little sag as is common though generally goes unnoticed however the rest of the trim must be considered to be in exceptional condition for a vehicle of this age.  On balance, the cabin is a lovely place to spend time.  

MECHANICALS & ON ROAD PERFORMANCE:  The S40 is superb on the road and just does not misbehave.  The engine starts easily and runs beautifully with no undue noise, no smoke and it does not appear to be loosing or using any fluids.  The suspension offers a superb level of ride refinement while still taught enough to afford the vehicle stunning cornering abilities.  The automatic gearbox shifts cleanly with no lag or slip.  The brakes feel superb, there are no warning lights illuminated, the air conditioner is very cold, the stereo is great and the whole car is still very tight.  I find this Volvo incredibly hard to fault on the road.

As mentioned previously, I advise and welcome any interested party to come and take the car for a test drive themselves or to send a friend, relative or mechanic in to inspect it on your behalf – being interstate is certainly no excuse!  As I say in every one of my listings: common sense should tell you that my personal opinions reflected in the above listing and 12 digital photographs are no substitute for your own detailed inspection and test drive. 

I have no idea what would be required of this vehicle to pass a RWC – I am not a mechanic so I can not speak to this subject with any authority.  BE UNDER NO ILLUSION IN YOUR DECISION TO BID – HAVE IT INSPECTED!
