Vintage Hand Carved Shell and 10 ct Gold Filled Cameo Earrings.

Description: This is a circa 1950s pair of cameo earrings. The cameos are made of real cowrie shell and are hand carved -- you can easily discern this if you examine the photographs. There are quite obvious differences between the two cameos that demonstrate that these are hand carved not machine made.

These lovely cameos are set into 10 carat gold fill metal and are all prong set. The setting is a very ornate filagree style that just looks beautiful. These earrings have french wires so they are suitable for pierced ears.

Signatures/Hallmarks: The backs of the earrings are signed as 10 ct (possibly 14 ct) and as "GF" for gold filled. I have included a photograph of the signature but it is difficult to read.

Measurements (Note: all measurements are approximate): The earrings have a drop of 3 cm.

Construction: 10 carat gold filled. Cowrie shell cameos.

Condition: I can't see any wear to this set.

All my vintage items are at least 25 years old. Because the jewellery I sell is old, it may show signs of wear. If you wish to buy perfect, mint condition jewellery then I do not recommend buying vintage items.

I do not recommend vintage costume jewellery for everyday wear. I suggest wearing these pieces for special occasions. Older pieces may be fragile and should be worn with respect and care.

I do not recommend cleaning vintage jewellery. Only professional cleaning is recommended for the pieces in my store.
