Vintage Art Nouveau Sterling Necklace Simlatd Jade Ruby This is an unusually nice silver pendant necklace. The pendant is from the 1920s, but I feel sure that the chain (which is marked 950) is a replacement.
The pendant features an engrave frame around an emerald cut ruby-colored stone. This section is suspended from a smaller section featuring a bezel-set jade-colored cabochon. I feel sure the stones are simulated but don't know for sure what they are. There are no metal or maker's marks on the pendant. I find very few necklaces this quality and size from this period, when tiny necklaces were all the rage. This one is much more substantial.
NOTE: Variations in color in the pictures are due to reflections. The color in person is a beautiful even silver. Inv #00-3496, 12711. SIZE: The pendant measures 1" by 2" (including the soldered bail). The chain is 1.3 mm wide.
CONDITION: This piece is in excellent condition - no damage. BACKGROUND: I recently bought an incredible vintage jewelry collection amassed from the early 1950s through the 1990s (including a handful of older family pieces). There are very few ordinary pieces, as this lady favored high quality, large scale, bold jewelry.
I'll be listing many pieces over the coming months. Today I'm listing some of the costume jewelry. Click here to see my other jewelry listings.
