Old/Vintage Sterling Silver and Garnet, Pill or Snuff Box.
Small, but grand. Old world, pure of design, small work horse box. Actual age unknown. I bought this box and lots
more goodies at an open air tag sale I attended in New Hampshire. I'm from Florida, I was in heaven. This pill box,
was one in a mason jar box, full of pill boxes. This cool old dude was selling these, a couple thousand used batteries
(not antique or anything???), and some dried flower arrangements his wife made for Easter, NOW available at half
price. Go figure.
Apparently, this Gentleman who had to be, at least in clear view of eighty, was selling these boxes, that had belonged
to his Mothers Father. He told me his Grand Dad was the local chemist. (we call them pharmacists in Florida) Anyway,
these boxes were Christmas gifts to his customers, provided to him by the pharmacutical company he did business with.
Drug companies have always been fast on their feet.
The picture tells a story of a practical thing, made special. The combo of marcasite/garnet, always a design champ.
The only markings on the box are the numbers 925 on the interior, to identify it as solid sterling silver...I asked if he knew
where the pill boxes were made and he said proudly "AMERICA". I don't know him, he may really believe that's the truth.
But I know a lot about drug companies, and these were made anyplace but, USA Planet Earth. And that's a promise. I have
never seen a better pill box though. Sturdy. Everything functions right. I am selling them as I found them, in need of a
cleaning and some polish. I did clean one to see if it was possible and to confirm that they are real silver, and tarnex brought
it back to a new dime shine.
