Here's a striking, solid oak pedestal that has a very Edwardian feel to it. It's been a family heirloom for three generations and is at least 60 years old.
Overall, the pedestal is in good condition for its age:
- It's made from solid oak. The grain is quite exquisite in places.
- The base is sturdy, making the pedestal a stable display platform for a period vase, lamp or ornament.
- The lathe work and joinery are superb.
The only blemishes I would call out are some patches where the finish has worn on the top as well as the base. I also don't think the feet are original, however they're not at all visible.
There are other marks of normal wear and tear, but they're nothing more than what you'd want to see on something of this age.
No Edwardian home was ever without a fern on a stand. Here's a chance for you to capture a piece of the past with this beautiful, old pedestal. It's just waiting to take pride of place under a spotlight in your lounge, dining room or hallway!
Dimensions: The pedestal stands 1030mm high. The top and base are both 330mm in diameter.

This oak pedestal would make a gorgeous display platform for a period vase, lamp or ornament. It most likely dates to the 1940s, if not earlier.
|
The column is vase-shaped and ring-turned from solid oak. The grain is quite exquisite in places.
|
The skill of the craftsman that made the pedestal is clearly evident in the fluid lines of the column and the seamless joins.
|
Here you can see the marks of normal wear and tear in the top. They wouldn't be all that noticeable once an ornament or vase was placed on the top.
|
The base also has marks of normal wear and tear.
|
I don't think the feet are original. A faint but illegible imprint of the manufacturer's stamp remains in the unpainted square to the right of centre in this photograph.
