This elegant half-moon table epitomises a classic but ageless 1950s style that still works well in modern homes.
The date of manufacture, 8th October, 1958, is still clearly written on the underside of the table top. That makes the table 51 years old last month and still going strong!
The table is in good condition for its age:
- It's made from solid mahogany, with the top formed from three, 3/4" thick planks. The wood is in excellent condition.
- The original finish is intact though, as you would expect from something of this age, it has worn thin in places, mainly on the top, edge and feet. It's certainly a warm and rich patina.
- It's as sturdy and stable as the day it was made.
Aside from marks of normal wear and tear, the only blemish I'd call out is an ever so slight lip in the table top where two of the planks aren't quite level with each other. It's less than 1mm high and is really only noticeable if you run your finger across the join.
One of the back legs is also slightly out of alignment, which means the table top doesn't sit flush against a wall. It's not noticeable unless you know about it and go hunting for it!
If you're looking for a genuine, period piece, then this half-moon table would be an eye-catching complement to your home. It would also make a terrific Christmas present for that very special person in your life!
Dimensions: The table is 815mm wide x 335mm deep. Its full height as measured to the top of its back edge is 740mm. The table top stands 710mm tall.
Pickup is from Rowville, Melway map 73. For a small fee, I can deliver the table to you if you're in metropolitan Melbourne. Viewing prior to the auction is welcomed.

This very elegant half-moon table would be perfect in a hallway or in a lounge. It's a classic style that works well in both period and modern settings.

Here you can see the lovely curved lines in the top and the Queen Anne-style cabriole legs. You can also see how the back leg on the left-hand side of this photograph is slightly out of alignment.

The manufacturer's logo is stamped on the underside of the table top and is perfectly legible.

The date of manufacturer is also on the underside of the table top. The table turned 51 years old last month and is still going strong!

The finish is worn in places, most noticeably at the front of the top.

The finish on the edge of the table top is also worn in places, more so on the table's right-hand side. Here's a close-up.

The feet show signs of normal wear and tear. It's visible if you look closely, but is barely noticeable under normal lighting conditions.
