For auction is a striking vintage ceramic trough or bonsai vase made in Japan around the 60s. It has two makers' marks to the base - one stamped with KS around what looks like 3 pine trees, the other impressed logo with the numbers 905/2030. I am not sure what the pottery is but have had similar high quality pieces with the 3 pine logo - it is obviously a very classy brand made for the export market. As can be seen from the photos, the sides of the trough are four straight 'slabs' attached to a base; underneath are two 'feet' one of which has the pine logo on it (see photo). The sides are finished in a sand texture - quite rough and earthy - while the interior is a dark brown gloss glaze with luscious blues & greens in the corners; underneath is black gloss except for the ends of the stands which reveal the white clay underneath. Measurements: 29 cm long, 10.5 cm high, 11 cm deep; internal space is 20.5 cm x 10 cm x 7 cm. This striking, versatile and very collectible piece is in excellent condition. It can be used for bonsai, as a flower trough or simply as a sculptural decoration in its own right. Estimated Postage Costs in AUD: Australia $7.45 - $18.45 depending on postcode; Overseas buyers: The package would weigh around 2.25 kg. Please email me for a quote if genuinely interested.
