Vintage Mesh Bag - Whiting & Davis USA

"The Whiting and Davis Company, located in Plainville, Massachusetts is the oldest purse company in the US and is responsible for a great variety of exceptional mesh purses as well as other accessories.  Although Whiting & Davis started as a jewelry firm in 1876, they made the first mesh bag in 1892"  Taken from Antiques off Broadway website" which is an excellent reference for vintage handbags.

An elegant enameled mesh handbag with an Art Deco style clasp.  This cream bag is made with tiny links and has an unusual matching mesh chain.  Judging by the style of the clasp I suggest this dates to the 40's or 50's.

It has no link losses, retains the original lining (which has a couple of small marks on it, nothing major but mentioned for accuracy) original tag that reads " Mesh, Whiting & Davis Bags, made in USA". 

   33cms high including chain x 26 cms wide

This is one for the collectors, very good vintage condition.
