Here's a beautiful, hand-made bookshelf that has an unusual style - its uppermost shelves are physically smaller than the others and are supported by wooden columns.
It has an Art Deco feel to it and may well be from that period; however, I don't know that for sure.
The bookshelf is in good condition overall:
- It's made from solid mahogany. The wood has a lovely grain, particularly on the uppermost shelves.
- It's hand-made from recycled timber. Some of the wood feels like it's even been cut by hand, which would make it quite old indeed.
- It's extraordinarily sturdy, being made from single mahogany planks of between 7/8" and 1" thick!
The only blemishes I would call out are some splits in the wood as well as some marks where old screw holes have been filled. Neither affects the structural integrity of the unit.
If you love books (as I do!), then this shelf would make a fine place to display those very special items from your collection. Its style can't help but enhance the wonderful aura of old books!
Dimensions: The bookshelf is 860mm wide x 215mm deep x 725mm tall. The lowest and middle shelves are 195mm tall. The top shelves are 165mm tall.
Pickup is from Rowville, Melway map 73. For a small fee, I can deliver the bookshelf to you if you're in metropolitan Melbourne. Viewing prior to the auction is welcomed.

Pickup
Pickup is OK. Most days between 10:00am and 6:00pm are fine. The pickup location is Rowville (Melway map 73).
Items need to be picked up within 10 days of the end of the auction. If you need more time, please do let me know in advance.
Delivery
For a small fee, I can deliver the bookshelf to you if you're in metropolitan Melbourne.
If something isn't right...
If when you receive the bookshelf and something isn't right with it, please do let me know within 7 days of receiving it. I will do my best to correct the situation for you.

Being recycled timber, there are several places on the two lower shelves where old holes have been filled. Here's a close-up of some of them.

The undersides of the shelves are split in places. Here's the worst of them. You can also see an old imprint of what must have been a bracket or hinge. None of this is visible unless you lie on your back and look upwards.
