Liner Note Author: Nadine Cohodas. Recording information: 1946 - 1959. Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sarah Vaughan are widely considered to be the greatest female jazz vocalists of all time. However, if there was a fourth name added to that list, it could very well be Dinah Washington. Few singers possessed a voice as heartrending as Washington; she was a master of the blues and a matchless balladeer. This compilation presents 12 timeless performances by Washington, including a dynamic rendition of "A Foggy Day" and a laid-back version of "Sunny Side of the Street." "A Slick Chick (On the Mellow Side)," "If I Loved You," and "Trouble in the Lowlands" are also included on this disc, and these are considerably rarer tracks. Biographer Nadine Cohodas chose great repertoire for QUEEN, focusing on a cross-section of Washington's work, rather than her most popular material. Indeed, this album gives listeners the opportunity to really explore the range of Washington's art.
