Jock Frater - Very Early Original Oil Painting

William (Jock) Frater Born: 1890-1974

A very early work by one of Austraia’s leading artists this Jock Frater portrait study is signed lower W Frater 17.

A competent historical portrait study of a gentleman this work bares some crazing to the shirt, tie and lapels and small flecks of paint are missing around the edges of the work due to age. The frame bares various nicks and crazing due to age. The work could do with re tightening the canvas to the frame in parts.

This oil painting measures 71cm x 59cm framed and 68cm x 55cm behind the mount.

Around 1910 Frater enrolled on the Victorian Art Society life class and this is possibly around the time this work was painted. In 1890 Frater was born in Glasgow, Scotland before migrating to Australia in 1910. If the 17 located near Fraters signature refers to his age then the work would have been created in Glasgow while studying at the school of art where he was awarded the Haldane scholarship.

How to Pay

Direct Deposit is available for Australian Bidders and Cash on pick up (within 5 days) is available for Melbourne Buyers. All Details will be available when you select (Pay Now). Payment via Direct Deposit receives complimentary extra insurance cover via Australia Post (insurance is charged at $1.20 for every $100 worth of cover ie. To cover an item sold for $800 is an extra insurance charge of $9.60 and an item worth $1000 = $12.00 extra insurance charge).

Paypal is also available for international bidders and Australian bidders. Please note insurance is not complimentary for Payments via Paypal and will be added to your shipping charge when you’re invoiced.

Shipping

International Shipping will depend on location so please email me for a quote. I pack and ship within two business days, following funds clearing in my account.

Shipping quotes include packaging and handling. I always recommend registered post (local shipping) and insuring an item (international shipping) as this will allow you to track your item while in transit. Please note registered post can take longer than regular and is an additional $2.75.

Insurance costs will depend on the final sale price of the item. Handling and packaging costs are $5.00 depending on the item and the amount of packaging needed. If my shipping quote is over the charged amount at the Post Office I always offer to refund the extra. I don’t ever load my shipping prices to gain profit. I simply need to cover my packaging (bubble wrap + packing tape) costs and your postage.

Insurance and Transit

Insurance is mandatory on all items posted within Australia or internationally as we cannot control your items handling once in the postal process and therefore like to ensure you’re fully covered and can claim Transit Damage compensation should you need to.

All items are packed very securely but in the very rare event that your item arrives damaged in transit the buyer of the goods (receiver) must lodge an insurance claim immediately with Australia Post and furthermore handles all dealings with Australia Post as we are not an insurance company. Antique_Circa will certainly be more than happy to assist wherever needed providing proof of purchase and any other details Australia Post require to complete your claim but please take all your packaging and your item and consult with your local Post Office and lodge your insurance claim with Australia Post first (13 13 18 central Australia Post contact number). Please don’t bid if you don’t agree with the later.
