GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS

1. Whilst all due care has been taken in preparing this description, errors and ommissions are excluded. It is important that you get the correct size. You should NEVER buy a bat on the basis that you (or your child) will grow into them. The correct size and weight is vital for the proper development of technique. Bats that are too long or too heavy will hinder a players development. Senior sizes? Senior sizes are referred to as SH (or Short-Handle) and LB (or Long Blade). The SH size is the standard senior size- it is only called Short-Handle through tradition, the handle is the same size as other bats. LB has a longer blade than the SH (about 2.5cm) and is suited for taller batsman You can return the bat for a different size if they don't fit- you will need to contact us and pay for postage both ways first if this is the case though. Subject to availability. If you unsure about a size- please don't hesitate to contact us- customer.service@sportsupplies.com.au

CRICKET BAT PREPARATION

New natural faced cricket bats need to be oiled and knocked in. Oiling your bat All bats that have a natural face (uncovered) need to be oiled with cricket bat oil throughout their life too maintain moisture levels in the willow fibres. This will reduce the chance of cracking or splitting during use. The type of oil required to be used is natural linseed oil (we sell this in our store) How to apply to new bats: The best way of applying oil to the bat is using your hand and lightly coat the face of the bat, edges and toe of the blade. Take care to avoid the stickers, logos and the splice area. Generally 3 to 4 light coats should be sufficient initially and one every 3-4 weeks thereafter. Each coat should be allowed to dry into the blade in a horizontal position before the next coat is applied. REMEMBER- light coats only- you risk more damage to the cricket bat by over-oiling rather than under oiling your bat Knocking In "Knocking in" your new cricket bat is VITAL for the survival of your new cricket bat. This is the process by which the fibres of the willow in the face and edges are compressed together to form a barrier, which protects the bat against the impact of the ball. Effective "Knocking In" will significantly improve the performance and increase the lifespan of the bat. I also recommend that factory pre-prepared bats need extra preparation by further knocking in using a mallet. How to "Knock In" your bat? First Step- Thorough application of linseed oil should be applied to all raw areas of willow. Then sing a special bat mallet, the bat should be struck repeatedly across and down the front of the blade. You should gradually apply more force over time. This conditioning must be performed with patience. Particular attention should be given to hardening the edge, by deflecting the mallet across them, not at right-angles to minimise damage from an edge shot. I also recommend "boning" the edges by running the handle of the mallet down the edge to compress them. The toe area of the bat should be faced carefully as there is risk of causing cracks or splits across the base of the base if it is struck too hard. This step takes between 2-4 hours to complete. Second Step- To ready your bat for match use, you should use your bat against throw downs in the nets or by giving short catches. Make sure the ball you are facing is a quality old ball. This should be done for at least 2 hours. If seam marks, small surface cracks or indentations are visible, it is necessary to go back immediately to the first step for further preparation for at least 2 more hours. This is not sign of a faulty bat- it simply means that the bat requires further attention. Once these steps have been completed, the bat should be ready to use in matches. You should try to avoid use against a new ball initially. . If you have any questions about the process- please don't hesitate to contact sales@willowizard.com.au
