You are bidding on a SUPERB VINTAGE WURLITZER 1100 in WORKING ORDER
This is the last of the Paul Fuller designed jukeboxes, his final "WORK of ART"
Said to have been influenced by WW11 aircraft bomber design with large Missilized viewing dome it was introduced in 1948/49 and argueably at the time had nothing that could rival it with its new sound system and full frontal display of everchangeing light and colours, it was the last of the Fuller Golden Age Jukeboxes, his last masterpiece which did not disappoint then, and today, with its dazling display of light and beauty.
This was one of the last 78 record , 24 select jukeboxes to be produced. The advent of 45's putting paid to the old 78's. This box has been converted to play 45's and I believe was converted not long after it was built due to the Cobra Tonearm and associated transfer / decals on the play deck. So she has most likely been playing 45's for over half a century.
If desirous to go back to 78's it is only a matter of changeing 2 gears in the mechanism, these replacement gears are readily available from Victory Glass in the USA at a cost of around US$75.00 but would probably require a jukebox mechanic to change over.
Whether 78's or 45's a huge variety of remake records are available to suit all tastes.
I purchased this box in the US in non working condition , since then the walnut veneers on the cabinet have been stripped and hand rubbed with Tung Oil, cleaned internally , mechanism cleaned and lubricated, some electrical wireing renewed, a cycle converter wired into the motor, a new second hand motor installed, the amplifier and pre amp totally rebuilt with all new caps resistors and valves and generally put back into good working condition. A new stepdown transformer will be provided in the sale. Also a freeplay plug , however it does have all its coin mechanism if you wish to use it on coin.
I have tried to keep the jukebox as original as possible while getting it back into good working order. I have just cleaned the chrome and plastics , I have not changed the colour cylinders, but in the event a new owner would like a brighter light display I have a new set of coloured sheets ready to install.
The selector works as it should , the revolving title drum works as it should, the rotating cylinders and other lights all work as they should.
The old nickel plated metal is in nice original condition, too nice to ever consider replating.
The faux burl wood finnish on the metal sections of the door and the small middle panels on each side of the jukebox is in fairly typical condition for the 1100 and could be touched up or redone if a new owner so desired.
This is a beautifull working jukebox, like any other antique it is not perfect, however I think you would have to look for a long time to find a nicer example. It is pretty much totally original apart from the refinnish to the walnut veneer, which I might add is totally original in itself, no veneer work was done or replaced when being refinnished, a rarity in itself in these old jukeboxes.
I am happy to answer any and all questions. The jukebox can be viewed by prior arrangement, which I would certainly encourage, however I am selling the jukebox as is with no warranty either express or implied. It will be up to the purchaser to organise transport at their own expense. May I suggest " Aladdins on the Move" as a company I have used and found very friendly, thoughtfull and caring. If you reside in the West I can provide details of transports that will handle jukeboxes, I have sent 2 jukeboxes recently to Perth, WA.
I have started the auction with an opening bid of $11950 and no reserve.. This figure in no way reflects the true value of this rare jukebox . However the opening bid price gives you the opportunity to purchase a very collectable and desireable jukebox at a very compeditive price. So please bid with confidence.
I WILL BE SELLING MY ENTIRE JUKEBOX COLLECTION OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS, I JUST DON'T HAVE THE ROOM ANY MORE FOR SO MANY LARGE PIECES, ALL MY JUKEBOXES ARE AT LEAST 50 - 60 YEARS IN AGE SOME HAVE BEEN RESTORED ( Not by myself ) ONE OR TWO ARE AWAITING RESTORATION. UNFORTUNATELY ALL HAVE TO GO !
PLEASE NOTE. The shipping estimate is not accurate, this auction is for pick up only, of course I will do everything in my power to assist.
The jukebox has been in storage for the last two years and may need a reoiling.
Should you wish to speak with me about the jukebox, I may be contacted on 0428 501195, please ask for John.
Should you be interested in the jukebox but don't have the ready cash I would be happy to offer terms, however please contact me prior to bidding should you wish to exercise this option.
