Washingtonia robusta

 The Cotton Palm is a stunning palm to around 25m tall. It is often seen starring in movies together with Canary Island Date Palms. As the name 'robusta' suggests, the Cotton Palm has a robust base, and skirts (Petticoats) of dried leaves are formed around the trunk.
Leaves are fan shaped, green and glossy. Pink to orange flowers are borne on a 3m long spike, followed by blue fruits. Fruits are edible and can be made into jelly; they used to be used for making bread by native Americans.
Washingtonia robusta is a native to desert areas of Mexico and is often seen growing near rivers, gorges and canyons.
Washingtonia robusta is suitable to all areas of Australia, being frost hardy to around -8 degrees although some leaf damage might occur at that temperature. No leaf damage down to -5. In warmer climates, this palm is considered one of the fastest growing palms in the world, as long as there's enough water in summer.
These palms are very adaptable and will thrive in most soils, but well-draining soil, as with most palms, is best. Very drought hardy once established and can handle very hot temperatures, but best when watered regularly through hot periods. Water less in winter. The Cotton Palm is salt tolerant, and is best in part shade to full sun.
Well suited along driveways, boulevards or in small group plantings. Can be grown in pots as a young palm, but will eventually outgrow small gardens. Best when given plenty of space.

All plants are soaked in Seaweed Solution to strengthen them for the journey. Roots are then wrapped in moist
media, either in their pot, newspaper or sphagnum moss, before being placed in plastic to seal in the moisture.
Each item has its own label with the plant name for identification & future reference. Plants are taped into strong
cardboard boxes to stop them moving around & boxes are filled up with packing material to protect them even more.
The boxes are all sent via express post, and are marked with ‘CAUTION! Live plants – do not leave in sun!’, to
advise the post office of the nature of the items. Plants can arrive at your doorstep as early as Tuesday or Wednesday!
