Weary ~ The Life Of Sir Edward Dunlop ~ Sue Ebury...707 page softcover, measures approx 13cm x 19cm. Comes in  used condition, some wear to the cover edges and corners and some creasing, some small marks..

From the cover:

'SIR ERNEST EDWARD DUNLOP, or `WEARY' as thousands called him, became a hero to many Australians. A brilliant student and sportsman, he qualified as a pharmacist and surgeon, winning gold medals and scholarships, and played rugby for Australia before going to England to complete his FRCS. When World War II broke out, he volunteered immediately, joining the 2nd AIF in the Middle East. He served in Palestine, Greece, Crete, Tobruk and Egypt before sailing to Java with his medical unit in 1942. Weary elected to be captured with his hospital, spending more than three years as a prisoner-of-war in Java and on the notorious Burma-Thailand `Death Railway'. His care for men under his command and his defiance of his captors in the face of brutality, starvation and death, made him a legend in his lifetime. Weary's gift for organising vast hospital camps, where his compassion, courage and determination to get men home became a byword, was recognised by the Japanese. Had they found his frank diaries of captivity, beheading would have followed. Returning to Australia in 1945, Weary dedicated his life to caring for former prisoners-of-war. He was a pioneering cancer surgeon and a profound influence on those who worked with him. Teaching through the Colombo Plan, he built strong relationships between Australia and Asia and was honoured by many countries. He was deeply involved in various aspects of community service, fulfilling a vow made in captivity that he would never refuse any request his country made of him. Sir Edward died in July 1993, much honoured and greatly loved, before this biography, written with his total co-operation could be published. Meticulously researched, it gives a rare view of a reticent man who lived by old-fashioned values, yet retained a wild streak which gave fire to his character and lifted him above his fellows.'

All my books are described as accurately as possible. However, I can not look at every page on every book. If I have overlooked something please let me know..
