Before entering Australian Idol, Wes Carr collaborated with numerous musicians. In 2005 he joined forces with Silverchair’s Ben Gillies, with whom he formed the band Tambalane. Their self titled album and singles Little Miss Liar and Free had some success on Triple J and The Australian Independent Music Charts. Due to a combination of factors including lack of financial backing, Tambalane broke up after they finished touring at the end of 2005.

In May 2006, Wes left to work with CJ Vanston in Los Angeles, where they co-write a song called Say My Name which appeared in the 2006 Christopher Guest Film ‘For Your Consideration’. He worked with professionals Jeff Baxter of Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers, and Mac Davis.

In 2006 Wes recorded his EP Rhythm To Fly, from which two songs – the title track Rhythm To Fly and I Will Lie – were featured on long running Australian tv soap, Neighbours.

During 2007 Wes laid down the tracks of his independently recorded LP Simple Sum, which comprised mostly of songs written at the age of around 15, at Electric Avenues Studio in Sydney with the help of Paul McKercher, Greg Royal, Gerard Masters and Hamish Stuart. Jim Moginie of Midnight Oil and Melanie Horsnell also guest starred on this recording. Wes collaborated with Missy Higgins, Andrew Farris (INXS), Paul Mac, Don Walker (Cold Chisel) and Abby Dobson (Leonardo’s Bride).
