WALGUN SNOWGUM - A SMALL COLD TOLERANT EUCALYPTUS
GENUS EUCALYPTUS GREGSONIANA

Eucalyptus glaucescens, commonly known as the Tingiringi Gum, is a small mallee or tree that grows to about 12 metres in height. It is primarily found in the high mountain country of the Great Dividing Range in Southern NSW and eastern Victora, the Australian Bark is dark gray on the lower trunk and on the tree form sheds in ribbons with the trunk smooth and green-gray above. In its multi-stemmed shrubby mallee form the trunk is relatively smooth. Its juvenile foliage is a feature - a mass of attractive glaucous (blue/green foliage with white coating) leaves that change to a concolorous green or greyish green at maturity. Fruits are a distinguishing feature - cylindrical to slightly barrel-shaped, quite large at 1.2 x 1 cm and normally glaucous. It flowers in late summer to autumn. Flower colour is white.

This is a lignotuberous species that lends itself to coppicing and when coppiced it can produce juvenile foliage almost continuously. The foliage has an attractive fruity aroma. Juvenile foliage is popular in the floristry trade. It is a frost hardy species that can take a range of soils. It is best in full sun
