BEAUTIFUL CLIMBER - THE WONGA WONGA VINE
GENUS PANDOREA PANDORANA

The Wonga Wonga vine is a vigorous evergreen climber that as a species in various forms that ranges in the wild from Victoria in the south all the way through New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory and across to Papua New Guinea. It is a hardy fast-growing plant that likes full sun but tolerates some shade.

It has large glossy pinnate leaves to about two to three inches. The tubular bell-shaped flowers to about an inch are produced in masses in the spring and can vary in colour from white to cream to yellow to pink to brown, frequently with purple stripes or blotches in the throat. This is a climber that can climb trees thirty feet off the ground if given the opportunity. The plants have a natural bushy habit but pruning may be needed to keep them to a desired shape and form. Excellent for training on a trellis, fence, tree or building.

Frost tolerance is variable in this species depending upon the source of the seed. The seed offered in this auction has been sourced from frost tolerant stock (-7*C/18F) with reasonable drought tolerance and will grow in almost any soil.The flowers can be expected to be in the yellow to cream range with purple throat tones.
