 Title: "Yin Yang Tree Frog Mandala" (GumTree)
ARTIST'S STATEMENT This is a delightfully whimsical frog composition where the frogs are presented in a Mandala. A mandala is a circle, whose archetypical symbolism, in creation, becomes spiritual and sacred. In the mythology of many cultures frogs are linked to cleansing, healing and creative powers. Their metamorphosis from tadpole to frog is often used to symbolise the awakening of ones creativity and recognising one's own power of adaptation. Frogs are naturally symbols of a peaceful, harmonious coexistence and interdependence with nature. Frogs because of this sensitivity serve as a strong lesson about our own interdependence within a fragile eco-system. Teaching a connection with the earth and everything on it. The image presents the two centre frogs within the Yin Yang design which is a well recognised symbol of Balance and Change. Its composition is bold and the smooth fluent shapes are confident. They are enclosed within a six pointed star representing the 6 days of creation. This star shape is made of spawn. Wrapped safely in gum leaves suggesting the need of a healthy environment, the frog eggs represent future generations. The gum tree branches are knotted together. Knots are symbolic of linked connection to protective powers. The colour choices of the corners allude to the elements of Fire, Earth, Air and Water which symbolises the inter-reaction of all physical existence. The image is a reminder to you of your own personal strength and ability to change and grow with life experiences, and of the existence of your own creativity and power of adaptation to overcome difficulties. It is also an image that reminds you of the fragility of the planet and the wonder and magic of its creation, a reminder to find and enjoy the beauty of what surrounds you Folk wisdom tells that dreaming of a frog means good fortune, happiness and great friendships. She has won numerous international art contests. Her former employment includes Artist-In-Residence and Private Art Tutor for a community center and an Art Teacher for a children's resource unit.
