Yashica YashicaMat Yashica-Mat 6x6 120 TLR Body

Introduced in 1957 the Yashica-Mat features auto-stop film winding with a crank handle. It features speed and apertures controlled by thumb wheels with the settings easily visible in small windows above the viewing lens. It was built with either  the Yashinon or Lumaxar f/3.5 lenses which are said to be of Rollei Tessar design and believed by many to be of equal performance to the Rollei Tessars and Xenars. The shutter is a Copal MXV 1-1/500th and B.

It's not unusual to see a very rough-looking camera body but with an immaculate lens/shutter panel. If you have such a camera then here's an opportunity for a simple restoration. Remove the leatherette carefully from around your lens panel, undo the four large screws, mount your panel on this body, tighten up the four screws, re-glue the leatherette back on..........maximum 20 minutes. Easy as pie.

This camera body has no dents and no paint wear or chips. The focus is smooth, as is the operation of the viewfinder hood and magnifier. The crank wind operates beautifully.

NOTE! It is best practice to keep the XM Sync lever in the X position. Problems with shutters in these Yashicas can often be attributed to use or improper use of the self-timer. 

It was December 1949 when the  Yashima Seiki Company was formed with an initial investment of just $566 and Yashica started business in Nagano, Japan making electric clock parts. They branched into camera components and by 1953 had changed name to Yashima Optical Industry Company, Ltd. and released their first complete camera, the Yashimaflex, a 6x6cm twin lens reflex. Lenses were bought from the Tomioka Optical Works.
