Yellow Ptilotus, Paper Foxtail

Ptilotus gaudichaudii

This plant is not on the Australiam Weed List.

A native of all the States of Australia except Victoria and Tasmania. An arid inland plant where it prefers light to medium, well-drained soils in an open sunny position. It is drought and frost hardy.

An annual with erect or ascending stems to 0.50 metres high; the leaves are green, hairless (glabrous), linear 1 to 3 cm long and only 2mm wide on the stems while the basdal leaves are spathulate to obovate, 1 to 3 cm long and up to 5mm wide. The flowers are globular to ovoid, 1 to 5 cm long and up to 2cm in diameter. The flower bracts are shining yellow with white margins and make excellent dried flowers.

The genus Ptilotus in being trialled for the export flower industry.
