Australian Handcrafted Birds

Pat Hoare has been crafting figurines and sculpting for over 30 years, which initially started from indulging his passion in native Australian birds.  Pat has for many years sold his work at local galleries, craft and earth fairs around Adelaide and South Australia.

The yellow robin is a finely crafted piece which measures 7cm in height. 

The robin is a detalied authentic piece made from high fired ceramics / whiteware (1200 degrees C).  The bird is first of all modelled in clay or wax, of which a plaster mould is made.  Clay slip is poured into the mould to make the basic form. Pat then hand details the figurines, accentuating the bird's features, eyes and feathers.  The hand painting is done by both underglazing and overglazing.  Pat does every part of this process himself, in his studio at home in Adelaide.
