 Arnica:

Benefits:      Internal and external preparations made from the flowering heads of Arnica have been used medicinally for hundreds of years. Alcoholic tinctures were used by early settlers to treat sore throats, as a febrifuge, and to improve circulation. It has been used externally for acne, bruises, sprains and muscle aches, and as a general topical counterirritant. Arnica has been used extensively in European folk medicine. Arnica has also been used for heart and circulation problems, to reduce cholesterol, and to stimulate the CNS. Arnica is employed in scalp tonics, antidandruff preparations, hair loss control shampoos, perfumery, cosmetics, as well as in homeopathic medicines.

Bay:

Benefits:      With its medicinal, fruity, spicy, herbaceous aroma, the bay leaves are used in aromatherapy to treat dandruff, hair care, neuralgia, oily skin, poor circulation, sprains, and strains.

How It Works

Hair - Growth cycle

On average, there are 100,000 to 150,000 hairs on the human scalp. Hair grows from hair roots, or follicles (saclike structures under the skin). Blood vessels at the base of each follicle provide the nourishment necessary for hair growth. Hair growth in each root occurs in a cycle independent of the other roots. At any time about 90 percent of the hair on the scalp are in the growth phase, while the other 10 percent are in the resting phase. The growth phase lasts an average of four to five years, after which the follicle enters the resting phase, which lasts about two months to four months. At the end of the resting phase, the hair falls out naturally and is replaced by a new hair. Consequently, some hair loss is a normal part of the hair growth cycle. In fact, on a typical day, about 50 to 150 scalp hair are lost. Baldness (alopecia) results when hair loss occurs at an abnormally high rate and hair replacement occurs at an abnormally slow rate, or when normal hair are replaced by thinner, shorter ones.

What causes Hair Loss ?

About 3 or 4 months after an illness or a major surgery, you may suddenly lose a large amount of hair. This hair loss is related to the Stress of the illness and is mostly temporary. 

Hormonal problems may cause hair loss. If your thyroid gland is overactive or underactive, your hair may fall out. Hair loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance.

Many women notice hair loss about 3 months after they've had a baby. This kind of hair loss is also related to hormones. During Pregnancy, high levels of certain hormones cause the body to keep hair that would normally fall out. When the hormones return to pre-pregnancy levels, that hair falls out and the normal cycle of growth and loss starts once again. 

Some medicines can also cause hair loss. Medicines that can cause hair loss include blood thinners (also called anticoagulants), medicines used for gout, medicines used in chemotherapy to treat cancer, vitamin A (if too much is taken), birth control pills and antidepressants.

Certain Infections like fungal infections of the scalp can cause hair loss too.

Hair loss may occur as part of an Underlying Disease such as lupus or diabetes.

If you wear pigtails or cornrows or use tight hair rollers, the Pull on your hair can cause a type of hair loss called traction alopecia . If the pulling is stopped before scarring of the scalp develops, hair will grow back normally. However, scarring can cause permanent hair loss. Hot oil hair treatments or chemicals used in permanents (also called "perms") may cause inflammation (swelling) of the hair follicle, which can result in scarring and hair loss.

The term "common baldness" usually means Male-pattern baldness. Male-pattern baldness is the most common cause of hair loss in men. Men who start losing their hair at an early age tend to develop more extensive baldness. In male-pattern baldness, hair loss typically results in a receding hair line and baldness on the top of the head. The causes of male pattern baldness are thought to be complex and are not completely understood. However, as suggested by its medical name (androgenetic alopecia), male pattern baldness seems to involve both hormonal (androgen) and genetic factors.

Women may develop female-pattern baldness. In this form of hair loss, the hair becomes thin over the entire scalp.

Hair loss occurs due to many reasons as discussed above. Many people do a self diagnosis and start taking one or the other Hair loss medication. Most of these medicines try to suppress the harmonal and genetic imbalances in the body that cause Hair Loss. In case of "male pattern baldness" most medicines available today try to lower the level of DHT in the body . These treatments use harsh chemical which effect hormones.
