FAQ Related to Flash

My Nikon Digital or 35mm SLR has a built in flash so why do I need another?

To get greater range

At ISO 100 with your typical standard zoom, the built in flash units of your Nikon is on average effective to only about 13 feet, and that's only when your zoom lens is at its fastest / widest-angle setting.

When you want to zoom in on the action, towards the telephoto end of your zoom range where your lens is the slowest, you'll find that the built in flash does exactly opposite of what you want. Its range is reduced to about 10 feet, and sometimes even less!

It’s even more annoying if you have a 70-300mm f4-5.6 or a similar telephoto zoom lens. What is the sense of having the magnifying capability of 300mm but your camera’s flash is only effective to about 10 feet? When you want to use your zoom’s telephoto capability that you paid for, but also require the built in flash, your pictures come out dark or, even worse, not at all!!

Compared to your built-in flash, with the zoom head of the Phoenix DZBIS-112iTTL set at the tele position, you can shoot up to 3X’s further away with improved color, more even lighting and added depth to your pictures.

Outdoors, at night using the cameras built in flash alone. (Distance to the fence about 20 ft.). The result is a poorly lit picture with muddy colors and little detail.

To reduce or totally eliminate "red-eye" Even using the red-eye reduction feature of your Nikon (because the built-in flash is too close to the lens) the flash reflects off of your subjects retinas directly back into the lens and often results in pictures with ?red-eye?.   The height advantage alone of the Phoenix greatly reduces or eliminates this "red-eye" causing retina flash bounce back. This can be totally eliminated by utilizing the bounce/swivel feature of the flash head to "bounce" the light off of a ceiling or wall, for professional looking results

To get professional looking bounce flash results Direct on-camera flash is not the best lighting for portraits, because it casts an unattractive shadow behind the subject, provides little modeling of the face, is harsh and produces red-eye. Utilizing the bounce/swivel feature of the Phoenix DZBIS-112iTTL, you can soften the light by bouncing it off a nearby white wall or ceiling or from another white surface, such as a bounce card, sheet of poster board or an umbrella reflector. This type of lighting is more attractive as it eliminates harsh shadows and the flat look of direct on-camera flash. Direct Built-In Flash Bounce Flash To shoot more flash pictures faster The high power output and IGBT circuitry of the Phoenix DZBIS-112iTTL provides ultra fast flash recycling and, as mentioned above, it is not necessary to use your Nikon's time wasting red-eye reduction feature which in order to work, delays each shot about a second before your shutter finally fires. Now you can capture all of the action and shoot with flash up to 1.5 frames per second! To enhance auto focusing capability Your camera’s built-in AF-Assist Illuminator is only effective to about 10 feet beyond which you have to resort to slower manual focusing that's especially inconvenient in low light situations. The Phoenix DZBIS-112iTTL incorporates a High Power Infra-Red AF-Assist beam that extends your Nikon’s auto focusing capabilities up to 26 feet even in very low light situations. Can I use this flash with telephoto or wide-angle lenses? You sure can! Unlike your camera's built in flash, the flash head can “ZOOM” to adjust the flash coverage to match the view of the lens focal length being used.
