LARGE DOME SEED GERMINATOR

bioSnacky Sprossengarten
Hydro 12

 ---- Mini-Greenhouse ----

For those of us who eat sprouts, we always have on hand the freshest, most valuable and cheapest vegetable available. In principle, sprouting seeds is quite a simple process, which requires little more than love, care and hygiene.

Turn your kitchen into a greenhouse!  Discover how much fun it is to cultivate your own fresh and crunchy shoots and sprouts using an Original bioSnacky Germinator and don't forget to purchase your Seeds from our extensive range of organically controlled crops (see our store - the sprouting seed range is shown at the foot of this listing). Sprouts and shoots are the perfect accompaniment to a well-balanced diet at any time of the year and are a great source of vitamins and minerals.

Fresh organic vegetables every day from a couple of square feet of counter space.  Sprouts are a powerhouse of nutrition. They have been grown by many civilizations over the past 5,000 years.  Sprouts have outstanding nutritional value. They are rich in protein as well as vitamin A, the vitamin B complex, vitamin C and vitamin E, as well as various minerals and enzymes.

The LARGE DOME SEED GERMINATOR sprouter by bioSnacky makes sprouting so simple.

Correct use of our top-quality Seeds will ensure optimum cultivation results in all bioSnacky germinators and glass germinators. (See our store for the complete range - pictures below.)

  • The top layer of this Germinator is suitable for growing taller sprouts as the lid is domed.
  • This newest bioSnacky Germinator does not have drainage plugs and is easily watered through a hole in the middle of the lid.
  • The drainage holes in the trays are larger in this model so, to prevent small seeds being washed away, approx. 25 filter papers are provided to line the appropriate trays, along with an instruction booklet. (We stock filter papers as a separate item in our store when you need to replenish them.)

bioSnacky 3 Tier Seed Sprouter Garden

Suitable for sprouting all seeds and grains, as well as for raising wheat and barley grass (in the top tray).

  • With special dome cover that gives extra height
  • Food grade acrylic material
  • Can be easily watered through the top of the dome

Have your own low maintenance mini vegetable garden "on tap" in your kitchen.

  • A good source of nutritional supplements, full of live enzymes
  • 3 levels of sprouts -- choose one variety or else mix three for the whole family
  • For daily fresh sprouts, grown naturally
  • Simple and easy to use
  • Shoots are ready for harvest within a matter of days, depending on the seed variety
  • Juice your sprouts along with your wheatgrass, fruits and vegetables (See our range of Juicers in our store.)

The variety of sprouts you grow in the bioSnacky Sprouter Garden can be used in such versatile ways -- on bread, tossed in salads, stir-fried gently in olive oil when preparing tasty cooked dishes, pancake fillings, omelettes or rissoles; add to soups, dips, muesli or simply stir into all kinds of pasta, rice, vegetables, fish and meat dishes. All cooked food is deficient in enzymes, so toss in some raw sprouts if you must cook!  Why not try one of our tasty recipes.

Instructions for Use
Best results are obtained when you place the larger seeds like Mung beans in the bottom tray, whilst the smaller seeds are best put into the top tray --- unless you are wishing to grow wheatgrass, in which case that is placed in the top tray.  When sowing very small seeds, place a piece of damp filter paper in the seed trays. Distribute the seeds according to the guidelines for amounts given in the seed growing chart.  An instruction booklet is provided with the Sprouter.

Filter paper is not needed if using larger seeds.  You can either germinate seedlings in just one seed tray, or else in several seed trays simultaneously.  In order to be able to harvest a fresh crop of shoots everyday, we recommend staggered sowing of seeds.

Here at Nature's Wonderland, we stock a huge variety of organic sprouting seeds.

Our seeds are the old traditional open pollinated varieties and have no chemical treatment, and no genetic engineering.
Preferably old Australian varieties and organically or bio-dynamically grown where possible.

The dimensions of the bioSnacky LARGE DOME SEED GERMINATOR are as follows :
Height 27cm, Diameter 20cm (10½" x 8")

CONTENTS -

  • One Mini-Greenhouse, including one lid and three cultivation trays and one surplus water tray.

  • One set of instructions for use.

  • One free sample sachet containing Original bioSnacky seeds.

  • Filter papers.

  • Sample sachet of Herbamare Original.

  • Sample jar of Herbamare Spicy.

Herbamare and Herbamare Spicy

These two herb salts are made to Alfred Vogel's original formula and are prepared from organically grown ingredients, which are processed immediately after harvesting,

Organic celery, leek, cress, onions, chives, parsley, lovage, basil,  marjoram, rosemary, thyme and kelp are combined with natural sea salt and allowed to steep for many weeks before the moisture is removed at low temperature by a special vacuum process. This allows all the qualities, aroma and taste of the herbs to be absorbed.

Herbamare and Herbamare Spicy can be used as a direct replacement for salt - during cooking or at any time you want the taste and aroma of fresh herbs in your food.

Grow Your Own Salad Sprouts

Sprouting is becoming more and more popular. It is great fun and very straightforward. To help you take that first step, here are some general rules - suitable for use in any of the bioSnacky Sprouters available from our store.

1. Wash seeds thoroughly in a sieve before sprouting.

2. Place seeds in the sprouter: approx. two teaspoonfuls of small seeds, one heaped tablespoon of larger seeds.

3. If growing in the small jar, cover the seeds with water and soak for one night then rinse and drain twice a day until ready. If using a three tier germinator there is no need to soak. Simply place seeds on each tray, cover the top tier of seeds with water and let it drain to the bottom. Repeat twice a day.

When using the smaller three tier germinator, it is important to make sure that the drain plugs are pressed down firmly, and that each drainage hole is clear of any seeds, as otherwise the water may not drain through. Also, when watering, bring the level up to above that of the plug. An air lock in the drainage hole can sometimes form and is easily cleared. Gently tip the tray up until the water starts to run through and then replace it carefully. Ensure that the seeds are given water twice a day and avoid extremes of temperature as these will affect growth. The run-off can be used to water your house plants.

Many seeds develop tiny hair roots after the second or third day. These are part of the normal development and will slowly disappear.

Avoid growing too many seeds at once. Only use seeds produced for sprouting, such as the range we carry in our store. Old seeds, seeds from unknown sources or chemically treated seeds may not sprout. Location of your sprouter is also important. The airing cupboard is too dark (and too easy to forget) but a sunny windowsill can fry the seeds, so a light, airy bench is best.

It is essential to clean the equipment thoroughly between batches. Washing is usually adequate, but germinator trays or bottles can be soaked in vinegar and then thoroughly rinsed before use.

Follow these simple guidelines and watch your nutritious sprouts keep on growing.

Happy Sprouting!

In the worship of Demeter, goddess of the corn, the ancient Greeks beheld the mysteries of life itself in the simplicity of the single grain of wheat. They understood the incredible potential of the tiny seed. In it lies the power to sustain, nourish and satisfy. In the germination and sprouting process is contained the vital energies which transform the seed into a tall strong plant which can ultimately reproduce itself many times over.

So what are sprouts? A sprout is basically just the ‘in-between’ stage of a seed becoming a plant. If you stop to think about it, a sprout possesses all the energy, goodness and power that enables it to be transformed from a small seed to a big strong plant. It contains all the nutrients for the baby plant to grow for the first few days before it can feed itself. It is no wonder then that this is the best possible stage of the plant for us to consume, as the nutritional value is at its highest.

Sprouts do not contain chemicals or additives as they are eaten in their true natural form, providing us with a direct link to nature. This is something that Alfred Vogel regularly recommended. You don’t even have to cook them. In fact, the best nutritional benefit comes from raw sprouts – a healthy and nutritious convenience food for once! The good news is that this great little power food is quick and simple to grow at home – you don’t even need a garden! The only ingredients required are the seeds you sprout, water and air – transforming the tiniest corner of your kitchen into a mini-garden.

Sprouts are highly nutritious. They give salads a crunchy feel, add colour to stir-fries and make excellent snacks at any time of day. They are also brimming with vitamins, minerals and enzymes – adding new heights to our vital force.

Being made up of 70% water we need to replenish our systems with water rich foods – organic fresh fruits, vegetables and sprouted seeds and grains in order to cleanse our blood and lymph. Sprouting seeds and pulses is something all the family can enjoy – children love to see their rapid growth. Try the Nature's Wonderland seeds, ranging from radish and alfalfa to mung beams.

Today, sprouts are making a bit of a comeback with nutritionists speaking very highly of these little ‘power pellets’. But do you know just how good they are for you? Here are a few facts to get you started:

• Weight for weight, sprouted seeds contain more nutrients than any other natural food known to man – enough to rival even the best supplement pills available.

• Due to the fact that they are basically ‘baby plants’, they contain high concentrations of valuable enzymes, proteins, mineral substances, trace elements and natural vitamins.

• Sprouts also contain excellent fibre that is beneficial to the intestines and regulates the digestive process.

• Since they grow right up until the moment they’re picked, practically no nutrients are lost.

Eating sprouts may be a new concept to you, but the benefits speak for themselves.

Once you’ve tried your first sprout, I’m sure you’ll agree that they taste delicious. Here are a few serving tips so that you can make the most out of them: salads, stir-fries, soups, dips, vegetable stews, detoxify; sprouts are particularly beneficial for those on a detoxify diet

There is a sprout variety to suit every taste; from nutty to spicy, delicate to hot – why not try them all.

But why bother growing your own?

They keep growing right up until the moment they’re picked, so you can’t get fresher!

Sprouts are instantly available when they are at their nutritional best.

It is an inexpensive source of fresh produce, especially throughout the winter months.

You can have a constant supply of sprouts by timing batches so that one is ready to eat while the other is just starting to germinate.

It couldn’t be more simple: just rinse, soak, rinse, soak and watch them develop. You’ll have a mini organic garden in the corner of your kitchen in no time.  They’re always on the grow!

Rainbow SPROUT Salad

Serves 4
This extremely colourful salad is abundant with energy. Sprouted seeds give us invaluable amounts of vitamins, minerals and enzymes – they add new heights to our vital force. Be sure to use organic seeds and you will feel the goodness as you crunch them. Children really enjoy them – they sprout so quickly that each day there is something new to try. Peppers give us good sources of Vitamin C, beta carotene and potassium.

½ cup sprouted fenugreek seeds
½ cup sprouted chickpeas
½ cup sprouted alfalfa
½ cup sprouted green lentils
½ cup sprouted mung beans
½ cup sunflower seeds
½ red pepper
½ yellow pepper
½ orange pepper
½ green pepper
1 handful pine kernels

Slice all the peppers thinly and place them with all the sprouts in a large bowl and toss them in your hands. Add a dressing if desired (the tastes are wonderful on their own) and sprinkle the pine kernels on the top.

Eat this salad as soon as you have made it to obtain the total benefit from its freshness.

Sprouting easily satisfies the demands of 21st century sustainability – it’s cheap, it’s fast, it doesn’t take up much space and, hey, it’s even FUN – on top of being so completely good for you! Here are some tips to get you started.

Overnight: soak almonds, hazels, cashews, sunflower seeds, etc. This is enough to improve digestibility and flavour; add them to salads or to cooked rice.

24hrs: keep the water from your first soaking of wheat grain. This now contains enzymes which can be used in place of an acidophilus supplement to help create healthy intestinal flora. Using two cups of grain to one litre of water, the liquid, known as rejuvelac, can be sipped as needed throughout the day.

3-5 days: following a simple soaking and rinsing system, alfalfa seeds, lentils and beans will produce succulent shoots, providing a little salad patch in the tiniest corner of your own kitchen. In a jar with a muslin or mesh cover, simply soak a handful overnight, drain off the water (which you can pour on your plants) and leave to sprout. After another 12 hours rinse and drain the seeds. Repeat this until the sprouts start to form little green leaves – there’s your chlorophyll.

There are plenty of books available providing more technical details and there is an ever-increasing array of sprouting equipment to improve your yield. Amongst their range, bioSnacky produce a small jar with a screw-on mesh lid and integral stand, so that you can easily drain off water. There is also a 3-tiered set of trays which allows you to sprout several varieties of seed without any extra effort. See the range shown above and visit our store for the full details on each model.

A sprout is produced when a seed starts growing into a vegetable.

Sprouts can grow from the seeds of vegetables, from grains such as buckwheat, and from beans.

Sprouts vary in texture and taste. Some are spicy (radish and onion sprouts), some are hardy and are often used in oriental food (Mung bean), others are more delicate (alfalfa) and are used in salads and sandwiches to add texture and moistness.

Sprouts are one of the most complete and nutritionally beneficial of all foods.

What is the Living Food Lifestyle™ ?

Living food is provided by nature, organically grown in its original, uncooked state.

Live foods provide the body with the life-giving, easy-to-digest nourishment needed to strengthen the immune system. Seeds, grains, nuts, fruits and vegetables in their natural, uncooked state are the living food used to rebuild health - physically, mentally, and emotionally.

The teachings of Ann Wigmore are simple, yet deeply rooted in the fertile grounds of love and compassion for humankind - planting generous and global seeds of hope and inspiration for those open and willing to receive change.

Why Eat Sprouts? (quoted from The Wonders of Sprouting by Lucie Desjarlais, RNC )

"Lots of reasons! They carry plenty of vitamins, minerals, proteins, and enzymes, all necessary for the body to function optimally. In addition to providing the greatest amount of these nutrients, sprouts deliver them in a form that is easily digested and assimilated. In fact, they improve the efficiency of digestion. Sprouts are also deliciously fresh and colourful!

Sprouts are very inexpensive (even when organic), always fresh (they grow until you chew them) and have the potential to help solve hunger and malnutrition problems in our communities and in developing countries, because they are so rich in nutrients, affordable, and easy to transport before sprouting. Sprouts are precious in winter, when the quality of fresh fruits and vegetables is declining as their price increases."

Sprouts are one of the most complete and nutritionally beneficial of all foods. Their nutritional value was discovered by the Chinese thousands of years ago. Recently, in the USA, numerous scientific studies suggest the importance of sprouts in a healthy diet. As an example, a sprouted Mung Bean has the carbohydrate content of a melon, vitamin A of a lemon, thiamine of an avocado, riboflavin of a dry apple, niacin of a banana, and ascorbic acid of a loganberry. Other studies have shown sprouts to be a powerful antioxidant and may assist in preventing some types of cancer.

Sprouts are the most reliable year-round source of vitamin C, beta-carotene, and many B vitamins (such as folacin). Sprouting seeds, grains, and legumes greatly increases their content of those vitamins. For example, the vitamin A content (per calorie) of sprouted Mung beans is two-and-a-half times higher than the dry bean, and some beans have more than eight times more vitamin A after being sprouted. Sprouts preserve our body's enzymes, which is extremely important. How do they do this? Sprouted beans, grains, nuts, and seeds are extremely easy to digest. Sprouting essentially pre-digests the food for us by breaking down the concentrated starch into simpler carbohydrates and the protein into free amino acids, so our own enzymes don't have to work so hard. Sprouting also removes anti-nutrients such as enzyme inhibitors, and that makes sprouts even easier to digest, further sparing enzymes. Another anti-nutrient is phytates, which is what stops some people from enjoying grains such as wheat. Many people who can't eat un-sprouted wheat find they can eat all the sprouted wheat they want with no problem

Almost any vegetable or grain can be consumed from sprouts. Broccoli, canola, cauliflower, and mustard greens sprouts are loaded with vitamins, minerals, protein, enzymes, and chlorophyll. In a recent study, 1 oz. of broccoli sprouts had the same cancer-fighting power as over 1½ pounds of fully-grown broccoli.
