Ka-Tzetnik's book 'House of Love' is in a
very real sense the sequel to 'House of Dolls'. To those who survived
the ovens and starvation of Auschwitz, deliverance and the outside
world were no lesser tortures. Locked within himself, Harry Preleshnik
can find no peace from his memories nor comfort from reality. He makes
the harrowing journey to Israel only to find the land torn by internal
tensions and hostilities between Israeli Arabs and Jews. But here he
finds rebirth through the love of a girl. Together they join in a
mutual effort to overcome the turmoil, hatred, and fear which surrounds
and envelops him.
Ka-tzetnik (KZ-nik) was short for ' concentration camp designate' (or inmate) to refer to Jews mprisoned in camps during the Holocaust. It was followed by a number, and this designation was tattoed on the forearm of Jews processed into the camps.
Some survivors today still bear the mark, (written K.Z.000000), and one survivor, writer-historian Yehiel Dinur, wrote his books under a penname Ka-Tzetnik 135633, after his Nazi designation. His work documents the history of Nazi atrocities.
