appears to be original carved picture frame
painting is recessed behind glass
in very good condition for its age
does have age spots and mark on edging border around painting
lefthand side- bottom of edging piece - small piece adrift
(as can be seen in picture)
overall frame size is approximate high 56cm wide 66 cm
was apparantly painted on commission for a grazier on a property in nsw
horses name on painting hard to make out could be 'chanet'
background on artist

australian artist
he became known for his excellent drawings of horses
his oils included 'rounding up a straggler'(1889)
'the cry of the mothers'
both were bought by the national art gallery of n.s.w.
mahoney illustrated australian writer - henry lawson's - while the billy boils (1896)
and in the days when the world was wide (1900)
he also did the illustrations for dot and the kangaroo.(1899).
