  ryukyu island crepe myrtle is a deciduous small tree native to the ryukyu island and taiwan. it is very hard to come across in austrlia. it differs from the common crepe myrtle (l. indica) by having smaller leaves and white flowers. however it is a better bonsai material as it has thiner twigs and smaller leaves. a very common bonsai specimen in japan chosen for its beautiful smooth bark and attractive autumn color. it has orange yellow autumn color and can be colored better in warmer areas. adapts to both heat and cold conditions, this crepe myrtle can also be grown in the poor soils and costal conditons. full sun to part shade.
