Victorian French fan .it has been kept in the box and out of the light and not used so it retains all its original colour and is totally undamaged or worn . hand painted scene that has a signature that I cant read (French ).miniature portrait executed with supreme brush control. the front and back end panels are carved differently one has an inlayed mother of pearl panel itself carved with gold metal studs . all the carving is hand coloured . the whole is covered in sequins of gold and silver metal some sparkly, some matt. all different geometric shaped sequins flowers lozenges stars etc . the sequins form a pattern of swags musical instruments and flowers . It wouldnt fail to grab some attention at a ball. the whole fans covered in net with a lace edge and a thicker fabric thats overlaid and pierced . 7.8in, 19.5cm long. Ive had it a few years so Ive had the pleasure of getting it out to look at every now and then. the box is undamaged.

A: I think its late Victorian, but I dont know that much about fans, its French which makes it harder for me to date . Its hard for me to find any of this quality to compare with, possibly its earlier.
